In the light of Jesus, we learn to shine
On Saturday 1st October around 130 people headed over the parish boundary to Church Farm in Somersham to enjoy an evening of pig racing!
The event was organised by Elmsett School PTA to buy new equipment and books for the school. There was much intrigue about the pigs beforehand, and whether they were real or not, but I don't think anyone was disappointed with the performance of our battery powered porkers as they waddled down the race track!
The children crowded around the race tracks and screamed their pigs home, for each of the 8 races. The team on the Tote took bets and made cash payouts to the winners - whilst no one went home a millionaire, everyone who took part had an exciting evening!
Grateful thanks to all to who helped, from those who sponsored a race or 'owned' some pigs, to the shop for selling tickets for us. Thanks to Elizabeth and Kevin Parker and their team from the Chernobyl Children's Lifeline (CCLL) who brought the pigs and ran the tote for us, and to Simon and team for the splendid pulled pork supper. Together we raised in the region of £1,200.00, mainly for the PTA but with a donation also being made to the CCLL.
Thanks to all who came and supported and, yes, due to popular demand, we will do something similar next year!
