Growth with Progress
16 children from years 4-6 went to the IPSSA Royal Hospital School Run on Wednesday 29th March 2017 to compete in the 1500m race (year 4's) and 2200m race (year 6) along with 34 other schools from South Suffolk.
We had to enter teams of 4 children and being a small school this meant that several children from the year below had to "run up" to enable us to enter teams in the races.
After weeks of training, the children's efforts certainly paid off with tremendous results for Elmsett!
Luke Hyde won the year 4 boys race after leading all the way round the course, Oskar was close behind in 8th, Bradley (year 3) in 78th and Morgan in 89th position out of 115 boys. Bradley and Morgan are new to running club this year and have made fantastic progress - all boys to be extremely proud of themselves!
Next up was the year 4 girls race - of the 92 girls in the field, there was a very close race at the front with Lottie taking 3rd place, Lexi close behind in 4th with Molly in 7th and Charlotte coming in 11th place! Amazing result - I think we will be in for a great team placing. The girls pushed themselves to the limit and got the great results - well done to them all!
As we didn't have enough year 6's to make up the teams of 4, we had 3 year 5's run up in the extremely competitive year 6 races. Despite this, Harvey led Elmsett coming in 21st out of 167 and Brett was hot on his heels in 22nd place. Deacon and Ollie ran their socks off coming in 44th and 51st respectively - brilliant running boys!
Finally was the year 6 girls race and year 6's Lucy, Melissa and Iona were keen to improve on their great placings from last year - and they did! Melissa came in 5th place, Lucy close behind in 9th and Iona in 26th out of 164 girls. Alice (year 5) raced for the first time and came in brilliant 67th place. What a fantastic ending to day of racing.
The children really enjoyed the days event and went through the roller coaster of excitement, nerves, joy, exhaustion and now aching legs! They were all stars and should be exceptionally proud of their efforts and excellent behaviour during the day. Well done!
The team results have been announced: Elmsett Year 4 Girls - Winners! Elmsett Year 6 Girls - 3rd place! What an amazing achievement! WELL DONE!
